Concrete Thermal Energy Storage System

  • Large insulated Anorthocrete block adjacent to heat or an energy source (large industrial facilities, wind farms, thermal power plants) that can be heated using energy that can’t go into the grid.

  • Blocks hold the energy as heat due to high aluminum content. When energy is needed, water can be piped through the system creating on-demand steam energy

  • Large scale energy storage at very low cost and high operating efficiencies for long durations

  • Anorthocrete does not break down at high temperatures which allows for more energy storage, unlike Portland cement.

  • Testwork is expected to commence this year to further evaluate key criteria including capacity and conductivity and integrity at high temperatures.
